Raul Mejia was born in Mexico City and came to the U.S. as a baby. As an artist and U.S. citizen, Mejia and his work fused Mexican and American cultures, exploring their intersections and bridging the gaps between the two.
Mejia began as a street artist in Sacramento, where he developed a distinctive style. Using simple lines to portray complex subjects. His paintings incorporate pop art with Mexican imagery to reflect his cross-cultural perspective. His work, featured in murals and galleries across the west coast incorporates metaphorical spiritual elements. He seeks to remind viewers of life, death and the beauty that exists in the here and now.
