Collection: Rie Design

Marie Thomas, better known around the community as Rie, has been creating since she was old enough to grab a pen and vandalize her baby book. She currently resides in Sacramento with her 2 amazing children, who are the real bosses. Sacramento has been her home for over 16 years and before then has lived in many places growing up a military brat from Germany to Texas and a few different areas of California and a brief stint in Colorado and Washington. 

She graduated from the Art Institute of California - San Francisco in 2005 but has been a student of art and creativity her whole life. In college she learned how to hone her technical skills and push her fine art knowledge.

After college, she focused on raising her family and design career. Art took a back seat for a few years but never stopped. The last couple years she has pushed herself out of her comfort zone to put her art out for the masses. This was hard for her because art up until then was mostly a coping mechanism and she wasn’t completely sure the public would receive it. When she finally got out of her own way she found that not only did they come to see it, they felt connected to it and wanted it for themselves! Since then she’s been pursing the art, as well as, maintaining her design business.

A ‘creataholic’ by nature, Rie has always infused creative ideas into whatever she’s working on. Her business, rie design, began as a graphic design firm and has grown to also incorporate her art. Her style is bold colors and abstract shapes with women figures blended in some pieces. Rie has been experimenting recently and is reusing garage sale and thrift store finds to turn them into art! Many of her pieces now are on canvas but also has pieces on paper, skateboards, tiles and mannequins.
