Did you know that lichen is not a plant? It's actually algae or cyanobacteria living among filaments of multiple fungi species. Artist Skye Bergen celebrates these amazing organisms by preserving them in clear resin. This botanically inspired pendant, along with the unique addition of Skye’s hand felted sheep wool backing, contains a tiny piece of lichen collected from an old rose bush in Calistoga, a teeny Hart’s Tongue fern, and a tiny bit of dried Maidenhair fern from Skye’s houseplant collection. It also has a handcrafted silver wire jump ring.

About The Artist
Skye Bergen only understands the world around her by touching it. She works in plants, textiles, fibers, paint, photography, resin, sculpture, music, and sound to make both wearable and non-wearable art. She makes noise and grows things. Skye is obsessed with pearls and lichen. Having discovered the therapeutic powers of gardening a few years ago, Skye decided that her ultimate life goal is to create and build a grief therapy garden in Sacramento for the public, dedicated to those living with mental illness.
