This original design, one-of-a-kind necklace is 3 strands of very tiny (27-29 beads per inch) of French cut steel beads from the Edwardian Era (approximately 1890’s to 1920). These beads were originally used in the making of the lovely ladies beaded handbags that were popular at the time. These bags have since become valuable collector's items. I buy damaged bags and harvest the beads for my jewelry designs.
Just disassembling those bags is an exercise in patience, however, the fluidity that these little gems provide is worth the work. The real eye-catcher on this piece is the Eastern Zhou - Han Period (770 -220 AD) hand-carved Double Headed Jade Dragon which comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Additional Jade elements are a lovely white Jade Kwan Yin, several small Jade animal totems, as well as 2 hand-carved Jade tubular beads. This necklace is just under 22” in length.
JADE is known to facilitate peace within the physical, emotional, and intellectual structures as well as the materialistic world. It is said to bring accord to the environment, to transmute negativity, and to instill resourcefulness. It inspires and induces ambition toward the accomplishment of objectives. It helps to attune one to the needs of others and inspires wisdom.
KUAN YIN The name Kuan Yin is a derivation of a Chinese name for the goddess that is the energy of motherly compassion. She is commonly known as the Goddess of Mercy. Her force is compared to Mother Mary in the West, Green Tara in the Tibetan culture the Virgin of Guadeloupe in Mexico, and many other ancient goddesses, the matriarchy of old. You might call her the Buddhist Madonna. Being one of the mother goddesses, she is especially connected to those in need of any kind of help. Much of my information regarding the properties of crystals and gems are taken from the FABULOUS, encyclopedic book. "Love Is In The Earth," A Kaleidoscope of Crystals, by Melody, which I highly recommend to anyone who is attracted to the energy of stones.
I suggest that if you live near the sea where the air is salty, that you keep this necklace in a container that will protect the metal from rusting.
